This number begins with the congratulation to far-eastern fishermen upon publication of the first issue of "Northern Pacific". Congratulation is signed by the chairman of the State Fishery Committee of Russian Federation, Vladimir Korel'skiy.
Then follows the entry article "Kamchatka is the heart of the Northern Pacific". It is written by three authors, who are the initiators of publication of the regional informational fishery digest "Northern Pacific". They are: Vakhrin Sergey, president of the Charitable Public Foundation of Rescue of Kamchatka Salmon; Vladimir Burkanov, chief of Kamchatrybvod; Sergey Timoshenko, vice governor of Kamchatka Region.
Analytic economic review about the state of fishing industry in Russia and in Russian Far East is given in the article "What is the price of silence?". The author of the article is Lydia Egina, the major science cooperator in Kamchatka Institute of Ecology and Nature Management.
"Golden Mercury" of Yury Didenko. This is the interview with the president of the largest in the Far East joint-stock company "Dalmoreproduct".
This critical article "The big fish of Kamchatka" is dedicated to the irrational use of salmon during the spawning period.
"Crab fever" is a series of publications about the problems of conversation of elite Kamchatka crab, the stocks of which were depleted by Russian fishermen.
"What has the capital got in mind?" is the article about the state of fishing industry affairs and of fishing control. Why fishery provinces are dying and "non-fishery" Moscow is prospering?
"Texas was the beginning" is the article about the opinion of the heads of the largest Kamchatka fishing companies about the state fishery policy.
"We are watching a demographic fiasco" is article about specialists' opinion about the sea animals and state of guard of sea mammals in the Northern Pacific. The article (by ichthyologist V. Bugaev) is about interaction of volcanic ash upon stocks of Kamchatka salmon. The article "Whales of the Okhotsk sea: past, present and future" (by biologist A. Burdin) is about the reappearance of whales in the northern part of the Pacific Ocean.
Fishing industry in Kamchatka is 100 years in the 1996. The publication "Chronicle of the fishery century" is dedicated to this date.
The Far-Eastern Fishery Studio was founded in December 1996 (on the base of creative union "Studiya-Vostok" of the Charitable Public Foundation of Rescue of Kamchatka Salmon). We publish materials about the films of our studio in the heading "N.P"-video" of every issue of "Northern Pacific". In this number we tell about a series of films "Polygon of the Okhotsk sea" (about the problems of the open part of the Okhotsk sea); "Chronicle of the fishery century" is about the jubilee of Kamchatka fishing industry; "Who needs it - this Vaska?" is about the problems of research and conservation of sea-lions in the Northern Pacific.
