HALF A BILLION DOLLARS "WENT" DIRECTLY TO THE POCKETS OF RUSSIAN BUSINESSMEN

Sergey AGAFONOV,
"Izvestiya", Tokio
According to comparative analysis of official statistics made by Nabuo Arai, a scientist from the Institute of Regional Problems, Hokkaido, only from crab, only during one year and only in one country (Russia) some smart catchers have put about half a billion dollars into a big private pocket. Which means that according to Russian Customs statistics Russian crab export makes 5 times less than Japanese crab import from Russia registered by Japanese Customs statistics. Lack in figures makes more than 31 thousand tons and lack in money makes nearly half a billion dollars.
According to competent Russian people, difference in statistics and in money is typical not only for crab but also for all Russian imported sea products: salmon, flatfish, herring, pollock, sea perch, cod fish, shrimps, sea urchin, shellfish etc. Situation with Russia is very specific. Japanese, for example, by all ways deliver fish products to their country and eat them. Russian fishermen take harvested fish very far from their land and sell it.
